The General Council of Italians “CGIE” is organized into a Plenary Assembly that meets at least twice a year in Rome at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and there is an organization by geographical area. Thus, from March 18 to 20, 2010, the European-North African Continental Commission met in Nice.
The following issues were addressed:
– Problems related to the development of Italian language and culture courses in light of the budget cuts imposed by the Italian State’s finance law.
– Situation of the Consular network concerning the potential closure of Italian Consulates in Europe.
– Reform of the representation of Italians abroad (Committees, CGIE). Analysis of the bills under discussion in the Italian Parliament.
– Celebration for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.
On Saturday morning starting at 9:00 am in the Michelangelo salon of the Italian Consulate, the traditional meeting of the CGIE and the Italian representatives of the Côte d’Azur took place.
This year, the meeting was enriched by the presence of the 13 Presidents of the Committees of France who took advantage of the CGIE Continental Commission in Nice to gather in a most pleasant atmosphere.
In addition to the presence of the Ministry leaders in the person of the Director General of the Migration Policies and Italians in the World Service, Madam Minister Plenipotentiary Carla ZUPPETTI, we also had the presence of the Italian parliamentarians elected abroad.
A final cocktail was offered by the Committees and the Consul General, Mr. Agostino LIONELLO CHIESA ALCIATOR, attended by local authorities from the Alpes Maritimes, represented by:
– Mr. Rudy SALLES, deputy of the A.M., deputy mayor of Nice and Vice-President of the National Assembly,
– Mr. Olivier BETTATO, deputy mayor of Nice,
– Mr. Eric CIOTTI, deputy of the A.M. and President of CG06,
– Mr. Patrick ALLEMAND, 1st Vice-President of the PACA Region.
