During the night of April 5th to 6th last year, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale struck L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy, causing numerous casualties and the collapse of buildings in the historic heart of the city.
From the 7th, the President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Eric Cotti, had expressed his support for the affected populations. On this occasion, he announced that he intended to propose to the vote of the permanent commission of the General Council, assistance for the victims.
On Thursday, April 16th, the permanent commission of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes met and unanimously voted to grant exceptional aid of โฌ30,000 to assist the earthquake victims. This aid will be transferred to the Abruzzo region, which has set up a donation collection system, through Mr. Agostino Lionello Chiesa Alciator, the Consul General of Italy in Nice.
