For the 9th consecutive year, the National Cancer Institute (INCa), in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Health Insurance (CNAMTS), the Agricultural Social Mutual (MSA), and the Independent Social Scheme (RSI), is launching the national campaign Pink October.

With nearly 49,000 new cases each year in France, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. When detected early, this cancer is cured in 9 out of 10 cases. Screening is a key step to detect cancerous lesions as early as possible, to allow for the implementation of the most targeted and least burdensome treatments, and to increase the chances of recovery. Over her lifetime, one in eight women will face breast cancer.

Since 2006, the General Council has participated in organized screenings implemented by APREMAS (Association for the Prevention of Cancerous Diseases). Every two years, women aged 50 to 74 are invited by mail to undergo a mammogram as well as a clinical breast examination.

The organized screening includes a second reading, by different radiologists, of all mammograms deemed normal during the first reading. This second reading allows about 9% of cancers detected within the framework of the system to be identified.
