The Good Friday Concert at the Nice Opera: St. John Passion

Latest News

Precious gem of the sacred repertoire and an essential work of Protestant music, the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach will be featured in the concert on the stage of the Nice Opera House this Friday (at 8 PM) and Saturday (at 4 PM).

This Passion, composed for Good Friday 1734 in Leipzig, possesses an unprecedented dramatic power. Bach intimately ties his narration with his musical discourse, thus making present, within the progression of the work, both the sufferings of Christ and other human reactions.

During this concert, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by its musical director, György G. Ráth, while the Nice Opera Choir will sing under the guidance of its director, Giulio Magnanini.
