The Grand Départ of the 2020 Tour de France: it will not just be a race, but much more.

Latest News

The lockdown has disrupted a significant portion of the summer programming, with more than negative consequences for the local economy that heavily depends on it, especially for the hospitality sector.

Saved by the improvement in the health situation and the powerful lobbying of the organizing company, the Grand Départ of the Tour de France—rescheduled for August 29, 30, 31—has become the EVENT that Christian Estrosi—outgoing and incoming mayor—will accompany with all his interest, hoping to derive the maximum sporting and economic benefit from it.

During the two-day launch event, in the presence of Ambassador Bernard Thevenet and ASO officials, the first day was dedicated to sports—with the announcement of maintaining the amateur Col d’Eze stage (10,000 runners have already registered)—a week after the professionals’ passage, while the second day focused on the cultural aspect.

After a morning spelling test with middle school students (a yellow bike for those with no errors), it was the artists’ turn to present their work models that will be showcased along the race stages.

“Nice is a city of sports but also of culture!” affirmed Christian Estrosi.
And if the Mayor says so, how could one think otherwise?
