Could a new political case be ready to break out? The Green municipal councillors, Juliette Le Roux-Chesnel and Fabrice Decoupigny, denounce a paradoxical situation: the Nice City Hall allegedly ignored (deliberately?) a court decision from 2006, by maintaining in its name (and in its memory) a space in the green corridor (named Promenade du Paillon)?
It remains to be understood how such a blunder (if proven) could have occurred in the silence of the opposition parties. The Greens are now the first to express themselves.
Given the popularity of the former Mayor of Nice beyond the mere facts of justice, there is still a suspicion of general complicity.
And what if everyone pretended to see nothing and simply looked the other way?
Indeed, Nice is a city that should be approached as singular.
COMMUNIQUE
The Streets Names Commission, an instance of the city of Nice where municipal elected officials sit, was supposed to meet this Thursday, November 13. The meeting was canceled.
In the meantime, we had communicated to the mayor and his deputy Auguste Vérola (in charge of this delegation) the wish to address the case of the Jacques Médecin Space.
Indeed, the naming in 2004 of the Jacques Médecin Forum, which is now located on the green corridor, was subject to referral by the administrative court of Nice (No. 0402698).
The court, based on legal texts and the Dubois jurisprudence, considered that public tribute cannot be paid to Jacques Médecin given his criminal convictions for interference, passive corruption, and concealment of misuse of corporate assets during his tenure as Mayor of Nice and the fact that he was stripped of his civic rights.
As early as 2004, the Green elected officials of Nice had spoken out against this deliberation. It is no longer a matter of political struggle but of applying the law. In law, a public place name constitutes a public tribute.
We hope that the delay imposed on the commission to hold its meeting will allow the Mayor and the members of the said instance to comply with a court decision that dates back to March 24, 2006.
