School council meetings are flourishing at the end of the year, and there seems to be widespread dissatisfaction regarding the quality of the food in various Nice school cafeterias.
Indeed, Sodexho, which replaced Azur Restauration in serving meals to students in Nice this year, does not seem to be to the liking of some school heads and teachers, who have made their feelings known by sending letters to the company’s executives.
“If things could still be considered acceptable at the start of the year, we are now noticing a decline in both quality and quantity. Moreover, the nutritional balance is sometimes barely adequate, with choices that do not suit us at all,” said a teacher from a school group in the city center, who also called out Sodexho to learn more about how the menus for her ‘little ones’ were determined. “I was told that the company did not appreciate the criticism and that a representative would come to meet us very soon. We are eagerly awaiting this meeting to explain our dissatisfaction.” Thus, the debate has indeed begun, and it is hoped that it does not turn sour but instead that a constructive dialogue develops between the two parties.
“Children, like teachers, hardly enjoy the meals provided, which makes lunchtime, which should logically be a moment of conviviality, more difficult. To give an example, last week’s meal of a hard-boiled egg and spinach followed by kiwis as hard as rocks was rejected by most students. This company needs to really address this issue,” said the principal of one of Nice’s largest preschools, highlighting a problem that seems to be spreading like an oil stain in Nice’s cafeterias.
Even parents are entering the fray as two elected parents were denied entry to their school’s cafeteria. “As we do every year, we asked to taste our children’s meal and were told that it was not possible. This is the first time this has happened, although we have been parents at this school for over four years.”
After the “week of taste,” it seems that the time of disgust has arrived in Nice schools!
