For several years, the number of Yellow-legged Gulls has been increasing, resulting in various nuisance problems: attacks on small pets, nesting on private terraces, on rooftops of buildings, noise disturbances, messes, aggression, etc.
To regulate the gull population, the Nice municipality decided in 2016 to innovate by using drones to sterilize gull eggs.
This technological sterilization project, which has been renewed this year, is conducted as follows: a drone sprays a sterilizing gel onto the eggs to prevent them from hatching. The sterilizing product, which aims to opacify the egg, is not toxic to nature or humans.
Due to the length of the laying period (two laying periods are possible between the end of March and the end of May), two rounds will be carried out. Each area within the perimeter and the order of passages have been determined based on complaints received from residents and co-owners by the Animal Mission.
All sectors reported by residents will benefit from this campaign.
