This Wednesday evening, OGC Nice hosted RC Lens as part of the 17th day of Ligue 1. At the end of a controlled match, the Aiglons won 2-0 thanks to a quick double by Terem Moffi.
The Niçois end the year with a victory! The Aiglons wanted to bounce back after the defeat at Le Havre last weekend. For this match, Francesco Farioli had a surprise in his starting eleven. Deprived of J-C Todibo and Youssouf (suspended), the Italian coach chose to start the young Antoine Mendy in central defense, alongside Dante. Terem Moffi, not fully fit, once again started the game on the bench. Evan Guessand was positioned as the forward. The rest of the red and black 11 remained unchanged.
Two Goals in Quick Succession for the Gym
The first half saw an open exchange between two offensive teams. The Niçois created several opportunities, exemplified by a rush from Melvin Bard, resulting in a shot over the bar, or a strike by Hicham Boudaoui, narrowly blocked by Lens defender Khusanov. However, the Aiglons struggled to threaten Brice Samba’s goal.
The match heated up in the second half. Marcin Bulka was aided by his post on a free-kick by Pereira Da Costa. A few minutes later, Guessand hit the post following a scramble in the Sangs et Or area.
The Decisive Entry of Terem Moffi
Farioli brought on the Nigerian international for the last quarter-hour. Terem Moffi scored with his first two touches. First from a penalty earned by Guessand (76’) and then with a header from a sublime pass by Jérémie Boga, following an incredible breakthrough in the Lens defense (78’).
OGC Nice maintains its second place after this victory. The Niçois conclude a successful first part of the season, with 35 points on the board.
Now it’s time for the winter break. The Aiglons will return on January 6th for the 32nd round of the Coupe de France. Nice will host Auxerre, a Ligue 2 team. The match is set to kick off at 8:45 p.m.
