The 14th edition of the Handi-Voile 06 summer tour was launched on June 4th in Cannes. During a stop in Nice, Eric Ciotti visited the nautical club to share a moment on the boat with the participants.
The Handi Voile tour allows people with disabilities and their families to enjoy activities like sailing or kayaking for free. The Departmental Committee also organizes introductory diving sessions.
“Handi Voile aims to erase differences and alleviate difficulties.” Deputy Eric Ciotti asserts that it is not disability that will put barriers to practicing sports. Four outings are planned per day, accommodating nearly a hundred people per stop.
Initiated by the Alpes-Maritimes department and renewed this year, the Handi Voile tour is a real success. In 2018, nearly 882 outings were organized. People with motor, visual, auditory, or mental/physical disabilities can board collective boats, adapted trimarans, or kayaks for forty-five-minute outings.
Handi Voile will travel along the coast, including Cannes, Nice, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Cap d’Ail, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes, and Mandelieu-la Napoule, until July 6th. Registration is done online for individuals.
The budget allocated to the Handi Voile tour is 60,000 euros. Both material and human resources have also been mobilized.
