Mr. Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, presented yesterday the new health call for projects 2013-2014 in the presence of the President of the Scientific Committee of the call for projects, Professor Jacqueline Godet, who is also President of the League Against Cancer.
The General Council of Alpes-Maritimes launched yesterday the 6th health call for projects aimed at supporting the medical and scientific teams of the department in their innovative projects. The best projects dedicated to medical research and improvements in screening, diagnosis, and management of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease will receive funding from the Department. This year, the new call for projects is opening up to two new areas: loss of autonomy and disabilities.
Since the first health call for projects in 2006, the General Council has funded 129 projects (out of 257 applications) for an amount of 21.3 million euros. This year, the participation of the General Council amounts to 2 million euros, an amount below the 3.13 million euros of 2012.
A Legitimate Presidency
The committee of scientific and medical experts is responsible for examining and preparing the list of files submitted for approval by a Permanent Commission. For this 6th edition, the presidency of the committee has been entrusted to the President of the League Against Cancer, Professor Jacqueline Godet. She considers her appointment as “not illegitimate.” “I congratulate the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes for its proactive investment in support of innovative research,” said the President before adding, “in my previous career, I was able to learn about the support on French territory and I find the support of the General Council even more exceptional.” Professor Godet wanted to reassure her audience about her impartiality by ensuring that it is not because she is also president of the League Against Cancer that projects related to cancer will be favored.
Jacqueline Godet, the first woman to reach the presidency of the League, is not alone in determining the winning projects. She is accompanied for this by Professor Sylvie Bonin-Guillaume, President of the Provencal Society of Gerontology, Professor Gilles Rode, President of the French Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Philippe Bailbe, Doctors Jocelyne Saos and Fabien Josseran for the General Council.
