Today, Héliotrope celebrates its 15th anniversary with the event “An aperitif is too short”. This association aims to raise awareness and inform about the latest developments in a little-recognized film genre: the short film.
In the big family of cinema, there is the prodigal son, the feature film, and the one mistakenly considered the black sheep, the short film. And yet, much like a short story in literature, the exercise is often more perilous. The traditional codes of cinema are disrupted. The presentation of the story, characters, and sequence of scenes must be swift, while still retaining the very essence of a film. It is to pay homage to it that the Héliotrope association was founded in 1997.
Raising Public Awareness
The Héliotrope association was founded with a simple objective: to make the short film known and promoted. Each year, the event “A festival is too short” (since 2000) links professionals, enthusiasts, and the general public together. It still needs to raise awareness about this type of cinema. Héliotrope organizes practical workshops for adults, as well as middle and high school students. Themed evenings, such as “An evening is too short” or “A night is too short”, support this approach.
This event is not confined to the boundaries of Nice. The Héliotrope association is represented nationally, participating in numerous festivals, such as those in Cannes or Avignon, and internationally through various European partnerships. It goes to show that sometimes the shortest objectives are often the best.
