“Established since August 2019 on a municipal parcel located on the road to Grenoble in the territory of the city of Nice, the Luciano camp was evacuated today. (Editor’s note: yesterday),” stated the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes.
This camp gathered up to fifty caravans and shanties, representing around 200 people, but has only had around fifty people in recent days, primarily Romanian nationals.
“Prior to the evacuation, the occupants were formally ordered to vacate the premises, by municipal decree and the prefect confirmed the principle of an evacuation, if necessary with the support of law enforcement.
In total, based on the elements of diagnosis and considering the rights that could be considered, 40 people were directed to accommodation by the state services and the OFII,” specified the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes.
