International Women’s Day, under the auspices of the UN since 1977 and recognized in France in 1982, is celebrated every March 8th. This year’s theme in Nice is: “The Role of Women in Art and Culture.”
Equality between men and women is a fundamental right, an essential value of any democratic society. However, too many injustices still persist today in private life, social life, and professional life.
โThis International Womenโs Rights Day fuels reflection, ideas, and projects that help us make concrete progress for the cause of freedoms and dignity,โ commented Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice.
Various events will take place from this Monday until next Sunday, under the banner “Nice Cultur’Elles!” This will feature a rich program with conferences, activities, film screenings, ballets, museum visits, and performances throughout the Nice area.
This Monday, the opening evening will be held at the Opera with a classical pas-de-deux ballet “DIMMI TUTTO โ Pourquoi je tโaime?” a contemporary choreographic piece (premiere March 2017) conceived by Ophรฉlie Longuet, depicting the meeting of a man and a woman. A sensual and delicate duo (Ophรฉlie Longuet โ Konstantin Neroslov).
