For the European Day of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Nice is organizing the “Mozzarella di Bufala” or buffalo mozzarella on February 24, 2010, at the Boscolo Exedra Hotel at 11 a.m. On this occasion, you will be able to attend the presentation of the famous Italian cheese and also taste it.
Distinction between AOC and PDO
We were familiar with the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée), which is a guarantee of quality for French products. The AOC identifies a product, its authenticity, or the typicality of its geographical origin. As for the PDO label (Protected Designation of Origin), it signifies the quality of European products. It protects the name of a product whose production, transformation, and development must take place in a specific geographical area with recognized and established expertise.
