In the presence of Christian Estrosi, Minister in charge of Industry, Mayor of Nice, President of Nice Côte d’Azur, Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, and Francis Lamy, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, the Jean-Médecin swimming pool was inaugurated after substantial renovation work lasting 17 months and costing over 6 million euros.
A new look for the Jean Médecin swimming pool.
Inaugurated on January 22, 1967, by Jacques Médecin, the Jean Médecin swimming pool underwent significant renovation work during 2009-2010. Such rehabilitation had become essential for this pool, built over 40 years ago. Following the upgrading of the Jean Bouin sports complex in 2009, another flagship sports facility in the city of Nice has been revamped.
From a simple pool to a modern sports complex.
The former Jean Médecin swimming pool has become, after more than 17 months of work, a magnificent complex. On this 2,200 m² area, supplemented by 500 m² of water surfaces, the following were accomplished:
– Complete renovation of technical installations, premises, and coatings;
– Interior redistribution of the premises;
– Arrangement of additional premises within existing surfaces to accommodate new activities (fitness, hammam, sauna, dining space…);
– Replacement of the framework and roofing.
This operation, costing over 6 million euros, is another example of the ambitious sports policy conducted by Christian Estrosi since his election. The primary aim of the Mayor of Nice is to “make sports accessible to all, facilitate access to sports practices, and renovate a large number of sports facilities.”
Perfect accessibility for disabled persons
Since its creation, the Jean Médecin swimming pool had never undergone work to allow disabled persons, especially those with reduced mobility, to access the different areas.
As part of the rehabilitation, significant redesign of pathways, particularly towards the pools, was carried out.
Moreover, municipal staff provides adapted aquagym activities for disabled persons during the week.
A building meeting High Environmental Quality (HQE) standards
Today, the Jean Médecin complex perfectly meets HQE type energy targets and sustainable development as required by the latest energy-saving measures from the Grenelle Environment Forum.
The building boasts reinforced thermal insulation and 70 m² of roof panels for solar hot water production.
Additionally, an ozone-based water treatment system prevents users from facing chlorine-related inconveniences.
