This Thursday, the commemoration of deported Jews took place in front of the Wall of the Righteous on the Hill of the Castle. This commemoration is organized by the Yad Vashem committee, in partnership with the Consistory.
Silent tribute, prayers, hymns, lighting of candles… the Yom Hashoah commemoration moved many. Under the portrait of Simone Veil, the ceremony was held in the presence of students from Don Bosco High School, who came in turns to recite the names of the 3,671 Jews deported from Nice station during the Second World War. Thus, the tribute lasted until 4 p.m.
Yom Hashoah is an annual ceremony that pays tribute in Israel and around the world to more than 6 million Jews who died during World War II under the yoke of Nazism and collaboration. A powerful moment in the face of harrowing statistics on the number of anti-Semitic acts. An increase of 74% in the year 2018.
