The Journey of Memory to Auschwitz

Latest News

As part of the action plan for respecting republican and civic values among young people, the department has established memory journeys.

For seventeen years, middle school students, generally in the ninth grade, have been sent to the camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland to remember the horrors of the past.

Since the inaugural trip in 2003, eighty-four trips (eighty-eight by the end of 2020) have been organized for more than 14,260 middle school students.

The students participating in this project have prepared for this day in advance with film screenings, visits from former deportees, or study sessions on this historical period.

This Thursday, students from Louis Nucera, Blanche de Castille, Saint-Joseph, Catherine Ségurane, l’Archet, Port Lympia de Nice, Saint-Philippe Néri of Antibes, and Les Campelières of Mougins will take a flight to visit the large extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

This trip is part of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Polish camps.
