The Journeys of Memory for the Younger Generations: Knowing in Order Not to Forget

Latest News

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance, we want to highlight the initiative of the Departmental Council which, once again this year, enabled middle school classes to visit the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration and extermination camps.

This year, the trips are dedicated to the memory of Charles Gottlieb who, on numerous occasions, served as an accompanying witness and who, during 2015, concluded his “journey” among us.

The first Memory Trips were initiated in 2004 as part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Shoah.

Since then, no fewer than 73 trips and 120,000 Peace Ambassadors have been formed by the Department.

Through this action, the Alpes-Maritimes Department aims to educate young generations about the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis and to allow them to approach with clarity and courage the conditions in which the irreparable and the unspeakable were committed.
