This Thursday, January 29, a delegation of 9th-grade students from 9 schools in the department will visit the sites of Auschwitz and Birkenau. This year, the Memory Trips are part of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camps.

For over 10 years, the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes has been raising awareness among young generations about the horrors committed by the Nazis and allows them to approach with clarity and courage the conditions in which the irreparable and unspeakable were committed.

This year, the Memory Trips are part of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps. On Thursday, January 29, a first delegation of 9th-grade students will visit the site in the presence of Jean-Baptiste Canonici, President for Corsica and the Alpes-Maritimes of the former prisoners of Rawa-Ruska, a former French soldier, and deportee.

The first Memory Trips were initiated in 2003/2004, as part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Holocaust.

Since their inception, nearly 12,400 students have participated.
