The junior journalist’s day in Nice

Latest News

On Tuesday, March 28th, the Nikaรฏa Palace and the Jules Romains College will host the 5th Junior Journalist Day.

As every year for the past four years, middle school students from Alpes-Maritimes will have the opportunity to explore the world of print media, radio, television, and the Internet.

The team from Nice Premiรจre will be present during this day and will offer 10 students the chance to create the next day’s front page, which will include articles, interviews, and a large photo gallery.

Why a Junior Journalist Day?

The primary goal is to familiarize young people with different media formatsโ€”print, radio, TV, and the Internetโ€”to increase their media engagement. The organizers of this day are thus in sync with press agencies, for whom audience development is becoming a priority.

Without instilling a mistrust of the media, it is essential to develop a genuine critical thinking among the youth, which is the foundation of citizenship education.

This ability to decipher information messages is one of the guarantees of the diversity and independence of the press.
The constant concern of the Daemi is to present the broadest spectrum of media, in terms of their platforms, political affiliations, or genres, staying true to the theme “diversity of media, plurality of opinions,” which remains a key principle of this Day.

The day’s program includes:

– Presentation workshops where young people discover various media outlets through a question and answer game, helping them refine their understanding of the press and compare different media and their characteristics.

– Dialogue workshops connect young people with professionals who share their experiences. These meetings make the media more accessible and tangible.

– Production workshops put young people in real-life situations: writing articles, conducting interviews, and producing radio and TV reports. By becoming junior journalists for a short time, they learn about the constraints associated with the media.

– Analysis workshops rely on written, audio, or visual documents. Through comparison, observation, and synthesis, they enable reflection and the discovery of media language.

– Conferences and round-table discussions illuminate specific points and synthesize observations made in the workshops.

– Exhibitions allow for the confrontation of students’ work and the presentation of particular aspects of the media: press photography, the history of the press, etc.

– Competitions (school newspapers, video reports) motivate young participants and sharpen their perspectives.

– Entertainment (music, artistic performances, etc.) contributes to making this day a real celebration of the media.

Notable attendees include:
Jean Claude Allanic (Mรฉdiateur France 2), Frรฉdรฉric Altmann (Director EAC arts), Jean-Pierre Amet (photo), Dominique Antoni (France BLEU Azur), Jacques Arazkieviez (IUT journalism), Corinne Assyag (Le Cri de la marmotte), and many others.
