The Kangaroo Unit, an innovation of the Santa Maria Polyclinic

Latest News

The Santa Maria Polyclinic opens an innovative neonatal care unit: the Kangaroo Unit. As its name suggests, it is a new method of caring for premature newborns or those with minor pathologies, with an emphasis on preserving the mother-child bond.

Thus, all rooms are equipped with the necessary equipment for specific monitoring care, such as incubators and heated beds.

The average duration of care is one week to 10 days.

The Regional Health Agency has given the green light to this innovation, the first in the region, which ensures that parents are active participants in their child’s care to maintain a continuous connection with the medical team.

Bernard Lecat, CEO of the Santa Maria Polyclinic, emphasizes the advanced nature of the initiative: “The Kangaroo Unit truly offers a solution to the stress and frustration that prematurity generates.”

The Santa Maria maternity ward handles an average of 2,450 births per year. It is the second-largest maternity hospital in the Greater Nice area and the largest private sector maternity hospital with 53-bed units.
