The Kid: When the Passion for Writing is Passed On

Latest News

Le Mรดme is an independent rapper from the Cรดte d’Azur. At 26 years old, he leads writing workshops in various schools. Today, it’s the turn of the students from Risso school to present their work on the stage at the BlackBox, at the AnimaNice Bon Voyage center.

Greg, his real name, has worn many hats in his life. First a butcher, then a teacher, but also a rapper, he has chosen to wear the hat of a writing workshop facilitator today. Le Mรดme shares a bit more about this practice, which is extremely important to him.

How often do you conduct this type of workshop?

โ€œI try to do this throughout the year. However, itโ€™s rarer with schools. With my association, we really want to touch all domains. Most of the time, we conduct this kind of workshop in prisons, or in centers for abused children. The goal is to show that everyone has abilities!โ€

How long does it take to prepare such an event?

โ€œHonestly, this time, itโ€™s a miracle we managed to do it so quickly. We only had six sessions, and that’s very few. Within that short time frame, they have to write, choose their beats, learn the texts, and then manage the stage pressure. Here, we started in mid-January, and in a little over a month, we pulled it off; they did a great job!โ€

Have you ever discovered a great talent, someone with a lot of potential?

โ€œNo, but anyway that’s not the goal. Some of them have predispositions, something natural in them that’s nice, but we’re not looking for that. The objective is to acknowledge that itโ€™s tough being young in 2024. It’s a generation with very little concentration. They struggle to think for themselves.โ€ Still in connection with music, he sums up his remarks in one sentence: As Mรฉdine would say: It’s better to build strong children. Than to repair broken adults.โ€

Were you helped by workshops when you were younger?

โ€œNo, I didnโ€™t go through that. It didnโ€™t exist in my time, I started music the old-fashioned way with the flute,โ€ he says, laughing. โ€œHowever, I would have loved to have had them. For me, all workshops, whether in music, painting, or even photography, are beneficial for schoolchildren. Unfortunately, theyโ€™ve been told so many times that theyโ€™re not capable, that they start to believe it. And this kind of workshop can prove the opposite to them.โ€

Itโ€™s time for Le Mรดme to put back on his rapper outfit. Tomorrow, he heads to Aix-en-Provence to open for a Mc Solaar concert.
