After Macau in 2011 and Xiamen last year… the Nice Carnival is being exported for the third time to China. Following a successful second experience with 50,000 spectators attending the 7 parades organized in Xiamen, the new edition is highly anticipated in China.
It was on this last day of the Chinese New Year that the cooperation agreement between Nice and Ningbo was signed, between two Carnival heads. Thus, the OTCN must provide by the end of the month the elements that will allow the Imagetrans company to make a proposal to the Chinese city and finalize the project. A preparatory trip is planned at the same time for a technical delegation from Nice.
From September 23 to October 3, Ningbo will therefore host the “3rd largest Carnival in the world” in its streets. “The success of this project relies on the perfect synergy between Chinese and Niçois teams, (…) which I already know is assured,” emphasized Christian Estrosi.

“In this Europe-China tourism year, this project is a new opportunity to position Nice as one of the major tourist destinations,” explained the City Hall in a statement. After the twinning with Hangzou and Xiamen with the ensuing economic exchanges, organizing the Nice Carnival in this port city near Shanghai is once again an opportunity to promote the city in China.
In order to further bridge the distance that separates them, Christian Estrosi announced the decision to open a direct airline between Nice and Shanghai, which he is “hopeful to see opened by summer 2018.” Today’s signing also has a symbolic dimension. The mayor of Nice highlighted this friendship between the two peoples: “10,000 kilometers are nothing when all that brings us closer is sharing a cultural heritage in which each has their identity.”
