The KNOW-HOW RELATED TO PERFUME IN THE REGION OF GRASSE is France’s official nomination for the 2017/2018 cycle, with a dossier that can only be submitted once every 2 years.
In a letter dated Monday, November 14, addressed to perfume plant cultivators, experts in the processing of natural raw materials, and perfumers among the most eminent creatorsโall members of the Living Heritage Association of the Pays de GrasseโJean-Pierre Leleux, in his capacity as President of the Living Heritage Association of the Pays de Grasse and project leader for the nomination, announced that, by decision of Madame Audrey Azoulay, Minister of Culture and Communication, the next nomination dossier proposed by France for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity [ICH] for the 2017/2018 Cycle will be “THE KNOW-HOW RELATED TO PERFUME IN THE REGION OF GRASSE.”
The nomination originated in 2008/2009 before entering the French Intangible Cultural Heritage inventory in April 2014.
In March 2015, the nomination dossier was submitted to UNESCO.
Jean-Pierre Leleux, President of the Living Heritage Association of the Pays de Grasse, alongside Nadia Bรฉdar, Project Director for the Nomination and ICH Mission, with the support of Jรฉrรดme Viaud, Mayor of Grasse and President of the Agglomeration Community of the Pays de Grasse, will organize in Spring 2017 a visit for UNESCO experts, inviting them to meet on-site the practitioners related to perfume and the Grasse population during the Centifolia Rose harvest season and the closure of the Year “ritual celebrations and social practices related to Perfume.”
