The federation of the PRG of Alpes-Maritimes held a somewhat special general assembly… Indeed, Jean-Michel Galy, its president since 1995, had decided to “pass the baton.” Very moved, he gave a brief history of the federation, recalling its disappointments and joys. “Every opportunity to uphold the values of radicalism has been seized!” he concluded.
Jean-Christophe Picard was elected to succeed him, alongside Alain Dutertry, general secretary, and Élodie Jomat, treasurer, while Jean-Michel Galy becomes honorary president.
The new president’s stated goal is to have elected representatives in the upcoming terms because “it is an anomaly that a party that upholds such great values, is so present on the ground, and is at the forefront in many issues, is not represented in deliberative assemblies!”
The members then invested their leaders for the upcoming municipal elections: Alain Dutertry for L’Escarène, Fabrice Lachenmaier for Le Mas, Jean-Christophe Picard for Nice, Jean-Pierre Braganti for Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Loïc Deltour for Valbonne-Sophia Antipolis, Michel Serpin for Mouans-Sartoux, and René Mauray for Antibes-Juans les Pins.
Responding to journalists’ questions, Jean-Christophe Picard stated the left-wing radical position on the situation in Nice: “Since 2004, the PRG has created a coalition with independent ecologists and numerous figures from the associative world. This dynamic was either to be a platform for gathering itself or to integrate into a large union list capable of defeating the right… It must be acknowledged today that the conditions for such a list to exist are not met. And it’s not surprising! Indeed, the chosen procedure is not right; it is clear that it is not up to the socialists alone to designate the head of the united left list… It is up to all the members—and even supporters—of the left-wing political formations to do so. You understood: we propose to our partners ‘Italian-style primaries’ to unblock the situation in Nice!”
