Created on March 22, 1888, “Lenval Hospice for Sick Children” has since evolved significantly. Thanks to donations, the pediatric university hospital in Nice continues to grow today and is now focusing on future prospects.
One hundred and thirty years, and yet not a wrinkle. In 1888, the Foundation’s motto was “to receive all children without income conditions and without distinction of religion and nationality.” In 2018, this mission remains unchanged.
Declared a public utility in 1893, the pediatric center was authorized to receive donations to ensure its operation, but also to finance and modernize all of its facilities and equipment in the health and social sectors. Each year, between one and two million euros from generous donors are collected in this way.
At its creation, the Azurean institute had only two beds, and consultations were carried out by volunteer doctors. Today, the Foundation employs 1,200 staff, operates twelve facilities spread across sixteen different sites. Last year, there were 62,000 emergency visits, 15,000 hospitalizations, and 5,500 surgeries recorded.
On Wednesday, following a press conference, the President of Lenval, Philippe Pradal, and its General Director, Arnaud Pouillart, unveiled a plaque in honor of all the former presidents of the Foundation on the occasion of its one hundred and thirty years.
Events to note
Throughout the year, several cultural and sports activities will celebrate this anniversary. Starting on April 8, during the match between OGC Nice and Stade Rennais. In fact, numerous operations (flags, “Lenval” stand, billboards, flyer distributions, etc.) will be visible within and around the Allianz Riviera.
Starting from Mother’s Day, on May 24, the Foundation will market the “Lenval” Rose.
The new “Californie 2” building, which will house the Early Childhood Training Institute, the Autism Resource Center, the Young Children’s Day Hospital, and the Nursery Assistants’ House, will be inaugurated in the fall of 2018.
Finally, a charity concert and a gala dinner organized by the Lenval Ladies’ Committee will close this commemorative year to raise funds (approximately €100,000 per year). Through this series of events, but above all thanks to donations, the Lenval Foundation has a bright future ahead.
