In January, the Senate opted for a two-tier Medically Assisted Procreation (MAP) by refusing to reimburse lesbian couples. This decision is seen as stigmatizing by the LGBT Center Côte d’Azur and its partners.
Members of Parliament began the second reading of the bioethics bill last Monday in committee. This bill includes the opening up of MAP, which is to be voted on during the month of July. The LGBT Center Côte d’Azur and its partners from the Association of Gay and Lesbian Parents and Future Parents (APGL), SOS Homophobia, Rainbow Children, and Planned Parenthood have written to the Members of Parliament for the Alpes-Maritimes to ask them to remove the changes viewed as stigmatizing introduced by the Senate in January. Promoting a truly open MAP, protecting all couples and all children, is the goal sought by these collectives. They urge that the Members of Parliament for the Alpes-Maritimes not create discrimination among women and not stigmatize the children of lesbian couples.
Committed to equality
The LGBT Center Côte d’Azur is fighting to create true equality among all women and for the protection of all children. To achieve this, its members advocate that all individuals of childbearing age should have access to donor-assisted MAP, regardless of their marital status, sexual orientation, or gender identity. But that’s not all: recognizing common law parentage for all couples using MAP, discrimination-free reimbursement, and allowing trans, intersex, or non-binary individuals capable of carrying a child to access MAP are also principles defended by the association.
