The LGBT Center Côte d’Azur will indeed organize the Dolly Music Festival, but is sounding the alarm.

For several years, the LGBT Center of Côte d’Azur has been organizing a street party called “Dolly Street” every June 21, on Bonaparte Street in Nice.

As a committed social actor in the fight against discrimination and for living together, the LGBT Center of Côte d’Azur organizes this event open to everyone to bring the desire to gather all differences in the public square in Nice, around music and conviviality.

But this year, the LGBT Center of Côte d’Azur will not be able to organize this “Dolly Street” on June 21 on Bonaparte Street. The Prefecture and the City of Nice are imposing security measures that result in significant costs for the association.

As a result, the organization of the “Dolly Street” is moved to the esplanade of the Mamac and the National Theatre of Nice.

The association is sounding the alarm: how can we continue to live normally and preserve our lifestyle while being financially burdened in sharing the costs of events that animate the daily life of the city?

For the LGBT Center, the answer is clear and decisive: it is not possible, and it cannot last.

For this association: “It is the responsibility of our local communities to stand by our side, take strong initiatives, and help us materially and financially to bear the costs imposed by their requirements.”

In short, if an event is authorized, it is up to the local community to assume the security costs, just like for the city’s direct initiatives or those of the Departmental Council.

This is an idea that calls for reflection and especially for analysis and consultation.

“Otherwise, we will all give up, and the daily animation of the
5th largest city in France, the second tourist destination in the country, will eventually fade away” – concludes the sad statement.
