“Two women holding hands is not something that should shock morals…” The group Mecano didn’t know how right they were singing, as today the lesbian movement is known and recognized on the French Riviera. It is precisely thanks to associations like MADmoiZelles that openness to the world has become possible through evenings that are as friendly as they are festive.
Therefore, Nice Premium went to meet Anne, President of the MADmoiZelles association, who reveals the aims of her association that has stood out by organizing numerous events in Nice and the region, but which is also an information hub on the gay and lesbian movement of the Riviera.
Nice Premium: Anne, the MADmoiZelles are going to close the season next Sunday. Can you tell us more?
Anne: Yes, indeed, Sunday is the last evening of the summer and we are finishing on our knees!
We have hosted one event every fortnight during the summer period, which allowed us to meet many women from diverse backgrounds who thought there were no festive venues in Nice! They left with a smile and will never think the same about our city thanks to the MADmoiZelles!
NP: What was the outcome of this first festive summer for your association?
A: Delighted… Due to the holidays, there was a constant turnover, and the women were never the same from one evening to the next! We realized the tremendous enthusiasm our events generate, and honestly, it feels good because we have invested a lot to maintain the quality of these evenings and never let them fall into mediocrity.
It should be noted that the preparatory work is undeniably more significant than the work done during the event itself! As soon as one evening ends, we immediately reflect on how the next one can be even better… so that the women, our clients, always feel pampered as if it were the first time.
NP: What other actions are planned for the coming months?
A: An anniversary… the first birthday of the Association, which will be marked by an event I can already announce as memorable!
NP: What would you implement immediately in Nice if you had the power?
A: In Nice and more generally in France… equal rights for all!
NP: What should we wish for the MADmoiZelles in the future?
A: To maintain the same pleasure and faith in what we do… so that the women continue to say to us, “can’t wait for the next one!”
