The Fête des Mai, a tradition rooted in Niçoise spirit, returns this year to celebrate Niçoise traditions. The gardens of the Cimiez Arenas will host these cultural events on Wednesday, May 1st, Sundays May 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, 2024.
Each year, this festival brings together young and old in a warm and friendly atmosphere to celebrate the richness of Niçoise culture and language. But this year, the Fête des Mai promises to be even more memorable, with a program as diverse as it is captivating.
A Festival for Everyone
The Fête des Mai not only celebrates Niçoise culture, but it also opens itself to all who wish to discover and share it. The doors are wide open for visitors from elsewhere, who are warmly welcomed and invited to become Niçoise for the duration of these festivities.
Similarly, the transmission of Niçoise culture to the younger generation is at the heart of the Fête des Mai. On May 28th, over 1200 children are invited to a special day filled with games and activities, offering an unforgettable experience to future generations.
The Program
Every Sunday and on Wednesday, May 1st, visitors will have the opportunity to dive into a diverse artistic universe. From traditional music to folk dances and local gastronomy, the activities will delight the senses and transport everyone into the cheerful atmosphere of the Fête des Mai.
This year, the Fête des Mai presents three new features:
- Artistic activities from 11 AM to 7 PM, allowing everyone to participate in dance, singing, and performance workshops to feel fully immersed in Niçoise culture.
- An emphasis on ecological transition through a cyclotrope educational stand, illustrating the festival’s commitment to environmental preservation.
- The very first “« Apéro des Frenchy« ” evening, an opportunity to celebrate the Niçoise way of life with a drink and delicious local specialties.
