The Malagasy community celebrated the 58th anniversary of the twinning between Nice and Antananarivo, initiated by the Nice-Madagascar association, in the presence of consular authorities from the Indian Ocean state and local representatives.

On this occasion, President Robert Verdoïa recalled the relations between Madagascar and France, which have existed for over a hundred years (“it’s already an old couple, so naturally there have been ups and downs…”) and between Nice and Antananarivo, with the city of Nice being the first to be twinned with a Malagasy city as part of decentralized cooperation.


Since 2017, an Active Malagasy Associative Structure, which mirrors that of Nice, has been in place in Antananarivo, thus promoting exchanges and collaborations.

It is also worth noting that Madagascar is the first sub-Saharan African country to host the largest number of French expatriates, numbering over 20,000 people…
