It’s a heavy blow for the people of Nice and the residents of the Libération district, as the Gare du Sud could close its doors.
Yesterday late afternoon, the Nice city hall issued a statement explaining that it had just learned from Urban Renaissance Development (URD) that the management company of the Gare du Sud, “Le Jardin Défendu,” a subsidiary of the Enchanté group, was in judicial liquidation.
Christian Estrosi expressed his dissatisfaction with this news and strongly criticized the group’s management:
“I do not accept that this emblematic site of the Libération sector requalification project could be in danger… I urgently request Urban Renaissance Development to fulfill its obligations, show responsibility, consider the future of this hall, and do everything possible to ensure its revitalization and the continuity of its operation.”
The Nice official clearly expressed his desire not to see the closure of the establishment for which he has fought:
“I will not let the Gare du Sud—once threatened with destruction and for which I have fought so hard—deteriorate due to the inertia of Urban Renaissance.”
The Enchanté Group responded to the statement from the Nice city hall by accusing Urban Renaissance (which handed over the management to them in June) of no longer responding to their requests even though the two companies seemed to have reached an agreement. The Parisian group also reproached URD for not wanting to invest “the several million euros needed to successfully transform the Gare du Sud into a true gourmet and festive hall, as well as to support the departure of restaurateurs who do not wish to be part of this renewal.”
Enchanté then addressed its judicial liquidation, specifying that the judicial liquidation of Jardin Défendu is not yet active but that a “meeting has been scheduled for mid-November to decide on this procedure.”
