“The largest ocean racing trimaran ever built in the world” was in the port of Nice on Tuesday. A 40-meter long and 23-meter wide gem, estimated at 10 million euros. A vessel that benefits from more than 1,000 square meters of sails to reach a maximum speed of around 47 knots, equivalent to 87 kilometers per hour.
The Banque Populaire boat set course for the French Riviera to be displayed to the public. It will set off next winter for a crewed, nonstop round-the-world trip. Skipper Pascal Bidรฉgorry will have to beat the 48 days achieved by Groupama to claim the Jules Verne Trophy.
An objective that will undeniably depend on the weather and requires a bit of luck at a time when many are attempting the record. But for Yoann Le Quintrec, who will be assisting the trimaran, “the performance of the boat and the crew remains superior to the luck factor.”
