In a letter made public on Tuesday, July 21, Christian Estrosi attacks the Government and the departmental Prefect Adolphe Colrat. He holds them responsible for the rise in violence in the Nice Priority Security Zone (ZSP). He demands more security resources from Mr. Colrat. His outburst follows the shooting deaths of two individuals last week in these “sensitive” neighborhoods.
After several letters sent to the Prefect and the Minister of the Interior, the time has now come for an ultimatum. The Republican (LR) deputy threatens to resort to “a private security service” if no reinforcement of “national police officers” is confirmed to him within 24 hours. He expects “between 70 and 100 agents.”
Because the Republican (LR) Mayor of Nice says he is at his wit’s end. He claims to have done everything to ensure the safety of the residents. Thus, he recalls Nice’s leading position in terms of municipal police officers and network of surveillance cameras. “I have also connected the tramway cameras to the Urban Supervision Center to optimize the means of action,” he makes sure to mention.
It’s not enough to counter the rise in crime in the Priority Security Zone. The two individuals shot at LโAriane and Les Moulins the previous week prove it. Last February, the Public Prosecutor had outlined the poor record of 2014. Christian Estrosi does not fail to remind us: “+22.6% increase in crime [โฆ] and 41% for burglaries.” The culprit is easily found in the figure of the “Minister of the Interior” Manuel Valls, who does not “take responsibility.โ
