Located in the heart of the urban technopole Nice Mรฉridia, the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment and Sustainable Development (IMREDD) is booming. Inaugurated in February 2012, the Institute is now establishing itself as the catalyst for innovation and economic renewal for the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis. But what are the prospects and characteristics of this driving institute in the dynamic of the Eco-Valley?


A new Research and Training Institute with the “Promising Campus” label, certified by the State as part of the Promising Campus project call, IMREDD is currently hosted at Nice Mรฉridia. By 2017, a new building will accommodate approximately 200 staff, including 100 researchers and 50 doctoral candidates, and between 800 to 1,000 students.

A new management team for the Institute

At the helm of IMREDD, a new director: Pierre-Jean Barre. A University Professor and former Director of the National School of Arts and Crafts in Aix en Provence. He brings a new impetus to IMREDD to support its development, benefiting from his knowledge of the research world and leveraging his strong connections with competitiveness clusters. He is assisted in his duties by Eric Dumetz, former Director of the National School of Arts and Crafts in Lille.

A genuine synergy between territory, university, and business

The Metropolis is committed to promoting synergy between the university system, the expectations of the civil society actors present in the territory, and the territory’s needs in sustainable development. IMREDD is the cornerstone of this commitment by bringing together all programs focused on green technologies into a single hub. The Institute defines a new form of collaboration between research, business, and territory.

A breeding ground for research and innovation

To create a true economic dynamic, in the heart of the Eco-Valley and to invent the territory of tomorrow, IMREDD, the Center for the Reception of Innovative Companies (CAEI), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) are housed in the same building: Nice Premium.
