With the Proteusยฎ One*, the Antoine Lacassagne Center, Cancer Treatment Center in Nice, inaugurates the Mediterranean Institute of Proton Therapy, a new facility for comprehensive patient care in proton therapy.

Proteusยฎ One is an innovative high-energy proton therapy technology for cancer treatment, particularly pediatric cancers. Proton therapy is an innovative radiotherapy technique to treat cancer cells while preserving the surrounding healthy tissues.

The Antoine Lacassagne Center has invested over 30 million euros to acquire Proteusยฎ One, benefiting from financial support from the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council, the City of Nice, the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis, and the State.

โ€œThe goal of the Antoine Lacassagne Center is to treat cancer patients and provide them with the best treatments that have proven their effectiveness and low toxicity, in order to offer the best possible quality of life,โ€ states Prof. Jean-Michel Hannoun Lรฉvi, head of the Radiotherapy Department at the Antoine Lacassagne Center.

With the Medicyc Cyclotron operational since June 17, 1991, the Antoine Lacassagne Center performed Franceโ€™s first proton radiotherapy treatment. In June 2016, the activation of Proteusยฎ One allows it to now offer two technologies โ€“ low-energy and high-energy proton therapy โ€“ thereby expanding its range of care services.
