The “Secularism Meetings in Nice”, organized on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1905 law, are an opportunity to debate secularism, a principle at the foundation of our republican model and yet constantly challenged, between various communitarian claims and the notion of “positive secularism” dear to Nicolas Sarkozy.

Henri Pena-Ruiz is a Philosophy Professor at Lycée Fénelon and a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris. He participated in the Stasi Commission on the application of the principle of secularism in the Republic (June 2003-December 2003). He is the author of numerous works including What Is Secularism? in 2003, What Is School? in 2005, The Great Legends of Thought in 2006, or more recently, Solidarity, An Ever-Present Urgency, in 2010.
