Since 2020, the Metropolis has launched its Territorial Food Project, a tool to make our territory an example of a prosperous and sustainable food system. In this context, the multiplication of shared gardens also plays a significant role.
The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is launching its first call for applications for the rental of an agricultural plot of land covering an area of 1.24 hectares with an agricultural building located in the town of La Roquette-sur-Var, in the locality known as Les Graves, to establish a farmer in organic market gardening. Faced with the price of land in our territory, which is an obstacle to the establishment of new agricultural operators, the acquisition of this land by the Metropolis in 2021 will enable a project to materialize and a farmer to get started.
This call for applications is open, and dossiers can be submitted until June 3, 2022. Full details are available on the website of the Metropolis at nicecotedazur.org. The lease signing will take place in the fall of 2022.
Other lands have already been acquired or are in the process of being acquired to allow the installation of future operators by the end of 2022. The Metropolis has decided to allocate 18 million euros over 6 years to its Land and Food Agricultural Policy.
In parallel, the City of Nice is launching a call for projects for two new vegetable gardens. The first, covering 1,000 m2, is located on boulevard Edouard Herriot, and the second offers an area of 1,100 m2 in the locality known as Collet des Grecques in Saint-Roman de Bellet. These cultivation spaces will be made available free of charge to selected associations committed to a local approach and adherence to the vegetable garden charter.
