The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis has just been selected by the European Commission to lead an international cooperation project with China focusing on innovative experimentation approaches in the fields of energy transition, combating climate change, environmental preservation, and healthy aging.

The IUC program (International Urban Cooperation) will be implemented over 18 months, funding the establishment of measures to improve the residents’ quality of life. A first study trip to China was conducted by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis this week, in the presence of European Commissioner for Regional and Urban Policy, Corina Cretu.

This program aims to address common challenges faced by major cities around the globe and concretely meet the objectives set by the Urban Agenda, the United Nations, and the Paris Agreement, by improving the quality of life for residents in urban areas. Each city participating in the program will mobilize its local partners: businesses, universities, and research centers.

The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis will lead this program in partnership with Haikou, a city of 2.3 million inhabitants located in southern China, specializing in new technologies, maritime economy, and ecology.
