“It’s not bad, but we can do better, much better,” says the delegated advisor Pierre-Paul Leonelli during the presentation of the current results.
It’s a matter of organization (see above for the measures taken) but also raising awareness among the residents, without which nothing will be possible.
In 2015, a metropolitan resident sorted an average of 28.4 kilos of household packaging. A performance below the national average.
To revive the sorting gesture on its territory and improve the collection of packaging, especially glass, the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis committed in 2015 to the national recycling relaunch plan initiated in 2014 by Eco Emballages and its affiliate Adelphe.
This metropolitan relaunch plan included four major projects: a diagnosis and information actions for the residents of Nice; a densification of voluntary drop-off points for glass; the installation of semi-buried containers in the Vรฉsubie and Tinรฉe valleys; specific actions for large glass producers.
The development of the collection improvement plan in partnership with Ecoemballages includes the following actions:
โข Reviving the sorting gesture in Nice
โข Densifying the voluntary drop-off points for glass: 160 new collection points
โข Installing 32 semi-buried containers in the Tinรฉe and Vรฉsubie valleys
โข Actions targeting large glass producers: + 370 bins and + 11% glass collected
โข Starting the construction of a local waste sorting facility, a recycling center, and an educational space in the Moulins neighborhood (completion expected in autumn 2017)
โข Continuing a local waste prevention program in partnership with ADEME (Agency for Environment and Energy Management)
โข Continuing the maintenance and upgrading of facilities (waste disposal sites) and the construction of new changing rooms for collection agents (Carros and Nice).
