Announced on Monday, December 17, by Christian Estrosi, the Metropolitan Local Urban Plan was adopted on Friday during the Metropolitan Council.
The Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis comprises 49 municipalities over an area of almost 1500 kmยฒ. The PLUm of 2019 includes measures on urbanization, environmental protection, and transport improvement.
Following numerous consultations with mayors, as well as with partners and citizens, the PLUm highlights several key announcements:
- In the area of land use and housing, the creation of an additional 300 hectares of activity zones. These are mainly located in the Var plain sector.
- It provides for the creation of an additional 1084 hectares allocated to agricultural purposes. This represents a 22% increase compared to the current urban planning documents.
- Regarding the preservation of the environment, an additional 500 hectares of natural spaces will be protected. 80% of these spaces already benefit from protection.
The opposition praised the rigorous work done by the majority teams, although regretting the lack of investments and projects concerning the city of Nice itself.
