Jaques Richier, the CEO of Allianz France, is the new president of the Development Council of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis.
Originally from Valdeblore (where he serves as a municipal councilor), he is involved in Nice’s sports economy: Allianz is the naming partner of the Grand Stade and the main sponsor of the rugby club Stade Niรงois.
He is undeniably a prominent figure in the economic life and succeeds Robert Roux, now a municipal councilor, who held this position since the inception of the Metropolis.
The Development Council is mandated by the 1999 Territorial Development and Sustainable Development Planning Act and reaffirmed by the subsequent 2014 Act on the Modernization of Territorial Public Action and Metropolitan Affirmation (MAPTAM).
It consists of four colleges, with the number of its representatives set at 145, including 96 from civil and socio-professional society and the remaining from the 49 metropolitan municipalities. Working through 7 commissions, this consultative body makes proposals in the field of economic policy.
During the previous mandate, the Development Council was behind the Metropolitan Small Business Act with new public procurement rules, which enabled 65% of these contracts to be secured by local companies in 2014.
New proposals will soon be put forward by the new Development Council to integrate the territory’s economic strategy and propel it towards full growth.
