The Minister of National Education, Vincent Peillon, eagerly awaited in Nice!

Latest News

Vincent Peillon, Minister of National Education, and George Pau-Langevin, Minister Delegate for Educational Success, will visit the Magnan Vocational High School in Nice on Friday, January 10, where they will be presented with several initiatives to combat school dropout: operation of the FOQUALE network (Training-Qualification-Employment), exam re-preparation module through alternation, school dropout prevention mission, personalized student support, and prevention measures.

On this occasion, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Rudy Salles, Deputy of Alpes-Maritimes, Deputy Mayor, Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy for Education and Youth, as well as a delegation of Mayors from the Metropolis, have secured a meeting with the Minister to discuss the school rhythm reform, which is causing significant concern.

After the heated controversies, will there be a way to find an agreement in the interests of those who should be the main beneficiaries… namely the children?

Meanwhile, the President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes has chosen not to participate in this visit to an establishment managed by his community. Éric Ciotti wants to thus denounce the inconsistency of the Government, which repealed the law on school absenteeism as soon as it was formed.

“This is a crucial issue for the future of our youth, but it is at least paradoxical that the Minister of Education is now tackling such a topic when, since his appointment, he has continuously undermined the existing tools to combat this scourge. Indeed, on January 17, 2013, the law aimed at fighting school absenteeism, which I had the honor of supporting under the previous legislature, was repealed,” explains Eric Ciotti.

And he concludes: “I had at the time denounced a totally irresponsible and ideological decision that put an end to a balanced and graduated mechanism, which had proven to be effective. While 300,000 students each year were in a situation of absenteeism, substantial improvements had been noted. In fact, 95% of the identified youths had returned to school as soon as the first warning.”

A tumultuous visit for the Minister…
