The Ministry of the Interior confirms the creation of priority security zones in Nice and its surroundings.

The Ministries of the Interior and Justice have announced the launch of 49 new priority security zones, bringing the total number of ZSPs in France to 64. Nice and its neighboring towns will benefit from this.

There will be 7 between the City of Nice and certain towns in its region: Les Moulins, lโ€™Ariane, La Trinitรฉ, Saint Andrรฉ de la Roche, Drap, Cantaron, and Falicon.

In Nice, the ZSP addresses issues of significant โ€œunderground economy delinquency, fires and gang phenomenaโ€ in the neighborhoods of Les Moulins and lโ€™Ariane, it is explained.

These Priority Security Zones (ZSP), particularly affected by delinquency, are intended to allow, โ€œin a spirit of partnership,โ€ to combat the most entrenched delinquency in the neighborhoods, according to the two ministries which display their unity.

According to the government, measures will be taken through redeployments by working โ€œin the long termโ€ on โ€œdelinquent trackingโ€ and โ€œwith all local actors (landlords, educators, etcโ€ฆ).โ€

Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis, is pleased but remains vigilant: โ€œSecurity is above all a sovereign mission, and the State must take its responsibilities.โ€

This is what, at least apparently, has just been done.

But the Mayor of Nice does not seem satisfied: โ€œI have already indicated to the Prefect and the Minister of the Interior that other sectors, such as Pasteur or Bon Voyage for example, must benefit from the same provisions as Les Moulins or lโ€™Ariane!โ€

It is very understandable that the Mayor of Nice is particularly sensitive to security issues, but perhaps it is necessary to avoid presenting the situation in a way that is even more negative than reality.

What would be the use of having a city divided into three: a showcase for tourists, a few residential neighborhoods, and the rest under security control?

However, it is indeed good not to ignore facts and even better to consider them at their true value. If the precautionary principle calls for the application of the maxim โ€œif you want peace, prepare for war,โ€ it can be countered with โ€œif you want peace, prepare for communityโ€ for those who have a positive vision of life in the city.
