Pierre-Paul Leonelli, deputy mayor in charge of cleanliness and collection, participated in the anniversary of the Moulins Recyclerie.
Conceived by the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, this small enterprise is entrusted to the Galice association, directed by Jรฉrรดme Taverne.
A well-organized system
Every morning, a team sets out to collect bulky items in the Moulins neighborhood. The day’s collection is then sorted, recycled, or transformed and improved in the customization workshop. Tables, chairs, furniture, sofas, everything is transformed in the hands of the employees in integration. The objects then have a second life in the adjoining shop. Prices are low, even negligible. Books for a few cents, decorative items for less than a euro; the sale of these former waste items brought in more than 17,048 euros in revenue over twelve months.
Environment
To raise awareness among the neighborhood’s residents about sustainable development, two gardens have opened. The first has an educational purpose: “We receive many visits,” says Jรฉrรดme Taverne. Kindergarten, primary, middle school, high school, everyone has access to a part of culture. The second garden, larger in size, is entrusted to the care of the residents. “Here, we grow what we want. Everyone comes and lends a hand.” Open to everyone, there is no condition required to come and work the soil.
Social
Thanks to the Recyclerie, 26 jobs have been created. The enterprise employs four full-time employees and twenty-two employees in integration. In addition to the activities in the enterprise, two professional integration counselors monitor their progress. The clientele mostly consists of people living in the Moulins neighborhood. More specifically, 9,200 visitors come from the 12,000 residents of the district. According to Jรฉrรดme Taverne, there is also clientele tired of mass consumption, who are more eco-responsible.
