The cornerstone of the Mountain Sports Center was laid in February 2014. This space will be aimed at all types of audiences: athletes, mountain professionals, as well as families and visitors to the Mercantour National Park, and schoolchildren.
It will offer the unique and original opportunity to learn and train in a fun way for all mountain activities indoors, with the aim of learning, improvement, and professionalization. Its opening is scheduled for the summer of 2016.
As part of the project defined by the Department, the UCPA will manage the operation of the Mountain Sports Center in close collaboration with local stakeholders: the Guides Bureau, accommodation providers, restaurateurs, Alpha Park, La Colmiane Station, the Borรฉon Nordic Center, and the Roquebilliรจre Thermal Complex. Located in an exceptional setting at the gateway to the Mercantour National Park, it is a sports complex like no other. By associating the local Guides Bureau at the heart of the facility and bringing together with the UCPA an expert know-how and an associative dynamic making mountain sports accessible to as many people as possible, the Sports Pole is already set to become an exemplary reference in France.
The UCPA is today the leading national player and main partner of local authorities in the field of nature sports. Beyond its recognized sports expertise, the association has solid experience in the engineering, management of sports centers in the best mountain and climbing spots (Chamonix, Ecrins, Verdon…), operation of large-scale sports facilities (Europe’s 1st skatepark and France’s 1st ice rink in Marseille, climbing wall and Olympic pool in Dijon…) and training for mountain professions.
This new sports complex in the “green mountain” of the Alpes-Maritimes, which features unique characteristics, will provide the residents of our valleys and visitors from outside the department with a completely novel and revolutionary leisure facility year-round.
