Every week, new cinema releases are always on the agenda. This Wednesday, October 12, is no exception, with a selection of films from all genres.
1. Simone, le Voyage du Siècle by Olivier Dahan
The biopic about the famous Simone Veil promises to be compelling. A film retracing the life of the former President of the European Parliament, who endured the hell of deportation during World War II. The feature film seems to aim at highlighting the courage of this woman who overcame many trials. A must-see in the making.
2. Jack Mimoun et les secrets de Val Verde by Malik Bentalha and Ludovic Colbeau-Justin
Let’s switch gears with this French adventure comedy. This film is halfway between Indiana Jones and Ace Ventura in Africa. On the agenda, tropical landscapes, a forgotten temple in the heart of a hostile jungle, along with a good dose of slapstick gags and exciting adventure. A movie for those who want to go on vacation early.
3. Halloween Ends by David Gordon Green
The last installment of the trilogy rebooted in 2018. This triptych aims to be the worthy successor of the original 1978 film directed by the great John Carpenter. In fact, we find the latter producing this new installment, as well as composing the soundtrack. We will once again have the pleasure of hearing the haunting cult theme created by the master of cinematic horror. This film marks the finale confronting Laurie Strode, played by the much-loved Jamie Lee Curtis, against the terrifying Michael Myers, the masked killer. To find out the outcome, head to theaters on Wednesday.
4. Butterfly Vision by Maksym Nakonechnyi
This intriguing drama was part of the Official Selection Un Certain Regard at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. It tells the story of a young woman expert in aerial reconnaissance who returns to Ukraine to her family. Just released from a prison in Donbass after spending several months there, her trauma begins to surface. We find the captivating Rita Burkovska in the lead role, in this film tackling strong themes rooted in our reality.
5. Le Petit Nicolas – What Are We Waiting For to Be Happy? by Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre
An enchanting animated film in the world of the renowned Little Nicolas, but from the perspective of its creators. Indeed, the film tells the story that led Jean-Jacques Sempé and René Goscinny to imagine the universe of this young boy and his whimsical adventures. The feature film is a huge tribute to Sempé, who sadly passed away recently, by reproducing his uniquely visual style. A film likely to move great enthusiasts of the illustrator, as well as comic strip and animation lovers. Let’s note that the film was part of the Official Selection Special Screening at the latest Cannes Film Festival. A must-see as soon as possible.
