The fire safety system of the Musรฉe dรฉpartemental des Arts asiatiques became obsolete as of January 1, 2015. Therefore, the Directorate of Construction and Heritage of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes is undertaking the renewal of all smoke detection sensors.

These works require a temporary closure to the public. It will reopen its doors on February 15.

Created by the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes to be a living link with Asia, the Musรฉe des Arts asiatiques owes the harmony of its marble and glass architecture, set on a lake frequented by aquatic birds, to the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. Open to all and free, the Museum presents year-round permanent collections, supplemented by temporary exhibitions that enhance and delight each visit.

A program is already planned after the Museum’s reopening:

From March 5 to September 6: exhibition “The Dance of Forms,” as part of the partnership with the Guimet Museum. This exhibition, currently displayed in Paris, was conceived on the occasion of the entry of 72 pieces into the Guimet collection, donated by artist Samiro Yunoki. Trained in textile art under masters of Mingei (a movement for the revival of Japanese folk art), Samiro Yunoki is a specialist in the traditional dyeing technique of stencil, known as katazome, and is one of its most illustrious representatives. His works, most of which are very large, are openly influenced by the West, notably by Matisse, Calder, Mirรณ… both in the techniques and materials used and in the decorative motifs themselves.

From May 1 to July 15: “The Masters of Bengal,” an exhibition of modern Indian painting. Forty-five works by eight artists from Bengal: paintings, sculptures, and engravings. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Paris.

On Saturday, May 16, for the European Night of Museums, the Musรฉe des Arts asiatiques will offer an opportunity to discover 15 works related to Asia created by the Best Craftsmen of France from Alpes-Maritimes in 15 different fields: cuisine, pastry, chocolate making, pottery, hairdressing, aesthetics, haute couture, carpet restoration… Each selected participant will present their work and explain to the public the skill involved.
