The departmental museum of Wonders in Tende opens its doors to the public until June 19, 2022, featuring virtual reality experiences, guided tours, creative workshops, and many other activities!


About the Museum of Wonders

Located in the Mont Bego area on the French-Italian border, the famous Valley of Wonders is a site as rich historically as it is culturally. It is considered one of the most important rock engraving sites in Europe. The museum of Wonders was established to contribute to the protection of this exceptional archaeological heritage and to make this knowledge accessible to the general public.

The program in a few words

The Museum of Wonders is organizing a new spring edition. An original program offering numerous rich and diverse activities within the framework of cultural development.
Return to the ancient traces of our Gaulish ancestors with film screenings, historical engraving workshops, and an exclusive visit to the museum galleries by candlelight. The Valley of Wonders will offer a unique and highly instructive experience that will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the Gallic universe, which continues to shape our history today. Entry will be free or at a very reduced price.

Exhibitions of the moment

Two exhibitions will also accompany the program to further immerse visitors in the heart of the museum.

From now and until October 30, come and discover an exhibition that will take you on a journey through time. It traces the atypical path of the “Sorcerer” engraving, which has become the symbol of the Valley of Wonders. “The Sorcerer in all its forms” explores this anthropomorphic figure engraved on rock about 5,000 years ago in a thousand and one ways and through time, carried by its “contemporary” art, it will achieve enormous success. Today, the “Sorcerer” can be found in various forms: artworks, books, stamps, company logos, tattoos…

Until September 30, 2022, the site located on a small peak in the Mercantour massif will be unveiled. The archaeological site of the Cime de Tournerie will be open to the general public. Through a playful, educational, and immersive journey, it will be possible to discover the monumental sanctuary erected by the Gaulish populations thousands of years ago.
